Bridget settled into Valerie’s office, which had become a makeshift office for her over the previous few days. The little room was littered with Christmas items, packed into brand new storage crates as she got ready for the Christmas market. Eight days until the start date and she still had so much to put together. It was one of her biggest sellers. The Christmas market was great for those last-minute gift ideas. She looked at her checklist.

Order new business cards. Done.

Order new logo stamp and stamp pad. Done.

Buy plastic pouches for storing items. Done.

Make 200 mini Santas (100 done)

Make 250 Christmas earrings. (100 done)

Make 500 writing things (0 done).

Get new table for market.

Order new banner. Done.

Buy paper bags for market

Make 200 Christmas ornaments, unglazed (25 done)

There was still so much on her list. Nothing could make up for the fact that she still needed to get a new table. She would have to brave the Christmas crowds to do it, but she didn’t want to. No way. No how.

Down the hallway, Valerie and Aria were decorating Christmas baubles for the tree. Aria’s shriek of delight and Valerie’s lower, melodic laugh punctuated her work. They were having fun.

She punched play on her playlist. A little Gaga to get her mood up while she worked. She needed to get the bookmarks made. She didn’t sell them on her website because they weren’t really worth it and never seemed to sell, but at the market, every other visitor wanted one. And they were so cheap to make. Just some cardboard, a printer, and a laminator.

Done.

She looked to the office.

She didn’t have a printer or laminator yet. Valerie already had both. Would it be okay if she borrowed them?

Bridget sighed and padded out to the living room where the dining table was covered in glitter. And so was Aria. Bridget smiled at the image.

“Is it okay if I use your printer and the laminator in there? I can go out real quick if it’s not.”

“Yeah. Mi casa es su casa. Whatever you need,” Valerie said with a smile.

“Thanks. Baubles are looking great.”

“You could join us you know,” Valerie suggested.

“I couldn’t. I need to get these bookmarks made.”

“Moooommmmm,” Aria begged.

“Let me see if you’re still here when I finish making them.”

“Only if you’re sure. We wouldn’t want to interrupt your work,” Valerie told her.

Bridget nodded and slipped back to the office. She knew she should go and join them. But she also knew she needed to get her inventory up before the market. And the bookmarks were part of that. It hadn’t escaped her attention that Valerie had promised to help her with that of course. And there she was playing with Aria instead. Of course, that was helping in a way. It was keeping Aria out of her hair.
